I grew up around my dad's boating workshop and seen it change overtime. It's old, and falling apart. The rusty junk piles get higher and prove to be an eyesore from the road. But up close tangled in their cables and wires is something beautiful and I wonder why it took this long for me to rediscover it.

These images don't really hold any personal history to them. I don't think they are as strong as last weeks images either. Bout they are images that I have considered showing in multiples on a single page. For example, a page full of anchors or a page full of gears. It's just a thought right now but I like the idea of mixing a personal narrative with just interesting shapes and a sort of patch work of images on a single page. Unfortunately because I worked so much this week I didn't have much daylight to work with so alot of these images are altered in photoshop.
The strongest images this week are the first and second of the chain. Great job editing in photoshop too by the way. A lot of times it easy to tell photos have been edited or altered, and it isn't as easy to see that in these photos.
I also like the idea of having a single page of patchwork to accompany the personal narrative in your book. You should definitely test out that idea.
I think the strongest images are the first and the last they are very interesting. I also like the way the last image was cropped. Surprisingly, they aren't any less interesting without the narrative. The weakest image is the third one, it doesn't seem to fit as well as the others, maybe if it was from a different and or had a more interesting background it would work better.
I agree that these aren't as strong as last week but we all have off weeks. I think the anchor could be interesting if shot from a different angle and had different lighting. Actually I think lighting was a problem for most of them, seems to be a cloudy day which makes the photos kind of dull. The last one is the best because I have no idea what it is and it intrigues me. Hope you have better luck this week. By the way is there any chance I could possibly do one of my shoots for my book in your dad's workshop?
The best ones out of this series for me is the first and second one. I like how you get close to the subjects that you are taking pictures of. A lot of times they come out super interesting. The only one that isn't really working for me is the third one. It doesn't feel very junky to me. I know you didn't like these as much as last weeks but keep going. You are getting somewhere with them and they are working out just fine!
I think the strongest photos for this week is the second and especially the last one. Sometimes you think you haven't taken great photos but go back two weeks later and some may grow on you. Keep them, dont just trash them. Continue to do the narration, I find it interesting.
I always get excited when I click on your blog. Once again you haven't disappointed. Everything is a bit grey though... maybe a brighter day next time? The third photo is a little plain, no? I think you could have done something more with it if you tried even a little bit more. The rest make me happy. So no more judgment.
I love your pictures! I don't have anything critical to say about them. The only photo that looks different from the rest is the one with the boat, it looks like it's been cropped in an elongated way. It works for this picture, but i figured I'd have to say more than just that I like your pictures. I do by the way. Great work!
This is a pretty strong set of pictures. i specifically enjoy the pictures of the propeller and the last one, I really want to know what that is. The boat picture has an odd perspective but I think it works.
I agree with you. I think last weeks were much stronger. I can tell you had less time to play with these. However, I think the second one is still a nice shot and it has potential to be as good as the other ones with a little tweaking in photoshop. Metals can be fun to photograph and make interesting forms and textures especially chains. I like the subject matter and you did a good job of making everyday things interesting last week. Keep it up.:)
I agree with you partially, but on the last one is pretty cool. Shooting on an overcast days gives some very nice warm tones. I still think you did a good job with this set.
The boat picture seems lack a story. Maybe it's just they way it's shot or just me. The other images seem to have a strong subject and hence I can draw some sort of story behind it. I really enjoy the 2nd picture with the chain. The textures are so strong I can smell the galvanized rusted chain.

ReplyDeletekeep it up. are we going to have a narrative--poem--storyline? Think on it-- how will these images be represented in the book.
