So unfortunately I don't have any pictures to post for this week for either blog because I have left my camera 2 hours away. So, as soon as it gets mailed to me I will post up my pictures taken from a few days ago, Let's hope that's by Wednesday or Thursday. Regardless, I do have my cover drafts. So here we go. And again sorry for not having the other photographs :(

The front cover on the first image is very interesting and works well. I like the simple font choice, but I think if the title is in all caps on the spine it should be the same on the cover. The photo choices for the second cover idea are also interesting. The third cover is really strong, I like it best. I like the fact that more than one photo was used on the front cover, I'm just concerned it might look a little textbook like.
ReplyDeleteI agree with April, the use of more that one photo on the front cover works the best. I think the third one is the way to go. Colors work well together and its a very eye catching design.
ReplyDeleteI was going for mechanical parts catalog... they sort of do look like text books. But I can see my images may not support that. Thanks guys.
ReplyDeleteoo oo!! The second one with the missing tools wall. THAT's the one that after seeing your stuff and seeing the sentimental childhood memory and stories that you shared with it makes the most since to me. I think it would be great to have that on the cover and after the viewer goes through the book to see it again and realize it was purposefully put there. My favorite.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!, These look rad, I like all of them. I gotta agree with Bryan about the missing tools, that one works really well. The third one is good also but colors remind me of Hulk Hogan.
ReplyDeleteThe second one is my favorite. Only I wish that you could combine the second part of the first cover and the first part of the second cover together. They seem like they fit together better than what you have. The simplicity of the font is good although I might play with the placement a little more. you have a really good start and I think the cover will go great with what you are taking pictures of.
ReplyDeleteLove em all dammit! I really think any of the three could be successful. I appreciate the more classic font with the pics and with the primaries. Think I enjoy the bottom the best because of the rectangled shot with all three colors.
ReplyDeleteI like the third draft best. The use of primary colors is interesting and it seems to work best with the images in the third draft. The title seems to be working too, I like it.
ReplyDeleteThe one I like the most is the second one. I like the text and it's color but maybe you should put the title somewhere else or maybe make it bigger so it stands out more. Overall, i think it's working.
ReplyDeleteI like the missing tool wall. But then I like the 3rd cover design as a whole. Maybe include the missing tools image somehow.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the colored spine. I think that the last cover works best, becuase your image is "parted" and you're title has to do with parts, plus I like the color, it's very attention drawing!
ReplyDeletei like the use of bright colors and simple text in all of these covers. if i were to choose one i like cover 2. the back being the empty tool wall and the front being a pile of tools along with text along the top and bottom randomly naming off "parts" great concept
ReplyDeleteThe first cover imagery is most directly related to the title, while the images on the second one makes me think the book should be "Tools" instead of "Parts". I'm not sure if the choice of primary colors works or not, I'd have to think about that. Prefer the full bleed cover imagery rather than the cover of the 3rd book. My two cents, keep at it!
ReplyDeleteI like the second book for sure. It's less busy than the other two and the angle of the shot of the wall takes you inside the book.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate that you have been looking at catalogs. That is smart.
ReplyDeleteKeep playing around but you are very close to nailing something that is visually strong.
I am partial to the second image agreeing with Bryan.
